The Pierced Arc: The Blog’s First Serial

A knock on the door, mail pouring through the slot. As the mailman walked back down the steps, a nondescript man in his mid 30’s knelt down in his entryway and picked up his delivery. He sifted through the envelopes with one hand while sipping from the mug of coffee in the other. Each one was unassuming: the usual bills, junk mail containing scratch cards with “free” cars, a letter from his alma mater the University of Chicago, another letter from Cornell and a few anthropology journals he was subscribed to.

“What’s this?” he said, setting down his mug. Hidden among the other letters was a blank envelope. He lifted it up and peered at it through the light from the entryway fixture to no effect. As he turned the mysterious packet over, he noticed it had a wax seal stamped with an odd symbol: a sun with an arrow over it. He moved into the living area and set the stack of missives on a table before settling into his chair with the mysterious envelope in hand. He stared at the seal in bewilderment. Whoever sent him this letter was definitely trying to get his attention, but how did the letter even come in the regular mail? He couldn’t place the symbol, it looked modern. Breaking the seal he opened the envelope and carefully extracted the letter within.

Dear Dr. Bradigan

Greetings and felicitations! I hope this letter finds you well and that its arrival has captured your curiosity. I’ll cut right to the chase; I have an opportunity that requires someone of your situation. If you want to know more, there will be a car arriving at your townhouse Sunday, May 5th at exactly 5:43pm. I’ve instructed the driver to wait no more than three minutes. If you decide against taking the car, you will never hear from me again.

Alright so this story is from an idea I’ve wanted to try for a while and I thought, what better application for it than as the blog’s first serial? I’m excited to get this started and I’m planning to post new content for this story every week. Please enjoy this piece as it develops over the coming months.
