Tick-Tick-Tock

It feels like time is more and more getting away from me. I sit here on my break at work thinking, I don’t have time for this, minimum wage at fifteen, maybe twenty hours a week. I want to write, nay, need to write for my deadlines are bearing down on me. But between work, hobbies, friends and family, time continues to tick away almost faster than I can live it.

I lean back in my chair and think, It’s only the beginning as well. As my life becomes more complex, and I seek new opportunities, what will I sacrifice? What part of my life should take the hit for the sake of growth? I suppose it’s a question everyone has to answer over the course of their lives once or twice, sometimes more. It’s just a matter of when you choose to step up to the podium and hit the buzzer.

“Hey, Tyler?” My supervisor walks in.

“Yeah?”

“The store is going to be four hours over budget this week,” she says. “The boss is probably going to want to cut your shift tomorrow.”

Anger. Confusion. Then I smile and think, Thank you God for the chance. “Tell her I’m taking the day off.”
