Start

Alright,
Let’s get this going in earnest.

I made a decision, you see.
A decision to move forward,
Because the world won’t wait for me,
And it’s better to start the race from behind,
Than to never start at all.
When the rest of the runners look distant,
Keep your head down,
And watch your step,
Because a careless glance,
Could send you tumbling.

I’ll welcome the hills as I go along.
It’s the hardships that give us the most strength.
To run on a flat plane,
Would be both effortless,
And fruitless.
Instead, run up mountains for your stamina.
When you feel like you can’t muster anything more,
You’ll find you’re not as close to collapse as you imagined.
Run down into the valleys for your balance.
When you’re being propelled beyond yourself,
As long as you keep your footing,
You’ll always find your way safely through.

At times it may be slow,
And at others I may stumble,
But I’ll still run.
Those of you who’re still at the starting line-
And you know who you are-
Waiting for a favorable wind;
I’m sorry to say,
You’re not going anywhere.
