Climb

Don’t whine at me for getting overlooked,
When you can’t do the job.
Don’t claim I went behind your back,
When I’ve already told you to your face.
Don’t say you never got the chance,
When I tried to teach you before.
Don’t act like I’ve betrayed you,
When I’ve given it to you straight.

If you want me to expect better of you,
I’m going to expect more from you.
So if you think I’m using harsh words,
You better know it’s intentional,
Because if you tell me you want to be something better,
I’m going to hold you to those words,
And push you toward that goal,
But I sure as Hell won’t carry you.

In this life you’ve got two choices,
You either be better,
Or you be satisfied.
If you plant yourself in the middle ground,
Unhappy with your place,
But unwilling to change,
You’re only hurting yourself.

And I hate to see you like that.
