Strength

I fail, and I cry out,
“My Lord, give me strength!”
Temptation has its way with me;
I am not strong enough to resist.
Daily I fail, and again I cry,
“My Lord, give me strength!”
Temptation has mastered me;
My weakness is laid bare before it.
No matter how often I go out to battle,
I return to You in defeat.
Why will You not grant me this request?
I want to stand strong for You, Lord,
To hoist Your banner high!
But here I lay wounded.

As the thundering of sin’s chariots,
Fade into the distance,
And the only sound in the silence,
Is the murmur of my sobbing,
The still small voice speaks:
You’re too strong.
“Lord, I don’t understand.”
You touch my mind again,
Unlocking another truth.
You’re too strong, You say.
Surrender.
Before the battle even begins,
Surrender.
Not to sin,
But to Me
.
