Tiny points of light leap and play,
Drawing golden lines in the dark night,
As I watch this sparkler shine.
In the distance,
A firework rises quickly into the air,
Chasing the stars,
And announcing itself boldly.
At its zenith, it blankets the earth,
With the light of many glimmers,
And the echo of its shout.
But only for a moment,
For as quickly as it came, it has gone;
A distant and fleeting joy.
Here in my hand,
The sparkler shines on;
It’s glowing whims dancing,
To some cheerful song only it knows.
Drifting away, I imagine a rocket;
That creation of power and ambition.
It coats the earth with fire and smoke.
It deafens those who witness it.
It soars ever upward and away.
It leaves the whole world behind.
A glint falls from the sparkler,
And stings my arm,
Returning me quickly to reality.
It’s soft glow had taken me to another place,
But I had forgotten its power;
For even this little one can set the world on fire.
