Sail

My thoughts are wind and water,
Unconstrained by your arbitrary boundaries.

Like drops of rain the letters fall,
Forming puddles of words upon the page.
More and more they tumble down;
A stream for a sentence,
A river for a paragraph,
A lake for a page.
Eagerly the clouds pour out their vessels,
Each splash is the sound of applause;
Already my words have overflowed the levy!
Now a vast ocean filled with life,
How can you hope to contain it?

Likewise, the wind, when it is blows,
Is an unstoppable phantom of energy.
It turns aside from every obstacle,
Finding a way over or under,
Through or around.
My thoughts cannot be held in the hand,
No matter how strong the grip.
Hinder me and the pressure will build,
Confine me and the container will burst!
My thoughts are lively and agile,
At home in the free, open sky.

By this ocean I’ll float,
By this wind I’ll sail.
