Finish

To begin the race is one thing,
To finish it is an other entirely.
Many a habitual starter,
Has failed to make this distinction.

So where is your victory?
Where’s the laurel wreath,
To decorate your brow?
It’s beyond you.

Will you now look on jealously,
At those who wear their prize proudly?
What right do you have?
They have earned it.

Start.

Not for the sake of starting,
But for the sake of finishing,
Because a beginning with no end,
Is truly a futile effort.

There’s a great wastefulness,
In time sold for no return.
Work until the work is done.
Rest until you’re rested.

Approach neither halfheartedly,
But with clear purpose,
And find your satisfaction there,
At the finish line.
