Pearl

I am a saint,
Created in the very image of God,
So why should I entertain sin?
Lord, You have said,
“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs,
neither cast ye your pearls before swine,
lest they trample them under their feet,
and turn again and rend you.”1
I am that holy, shining pearl,
Uniquely created and purposed for goodness.
To cast myself into the mire,
Would tarnish my Lord’s handiwork.
Even so, I am guilty.
Oh how glorious is the love of my Lord,
That seeks me when I’m lost,
And never stops till I’m found!
How glorious His keen eye,
Which finds me in the muck,
No matter how deep I sink!
How glorious His hand,
Which fetches me gently from my distress,
And cleans me expertly!
I will be returned to my setting,
Held firmly in the ring of His great plan.
